Oceans 2.0 – Web Control of Undersea
This project was part of the University of Victoria and Neptune Canada Oceans 2.0 project funded by Canarie Inc. The goal of this project was to provide online live full resolution high definition video from the seafloor and facilitate interactive remote control of the camera using web services software. The expected result was that scientists will be able to control their own view of the undersea environment from wherever they are.
The underwater high definition video camera. The Panasonic camera has low light level capability and is normally used with the two small LED lights on either side of it to view small areas close to the camera. The floodlight above the camera is used to illuminate larger areas. The camera is mounted on its supporting structure by means of the pan/tilt head at the top of the image. Photo: John Roston.
